Stud Book Foal Registration Identification Registration
Pedigree Papers All horses issued pedigree papers by the HHSA now have their names recorded on their Pedigree Certificates. The name should be submitted when applying for classification or licensing. The name cannot be changed for any reason. Stud Book mares and Licensed stallions have priority when allocating names. If an unregistered horse is also known to hold the same name as a Stud Book registered horse, then the owner of the Stud Book horse will not have their application for that particular name rejected, unless the name is considered to be uniquely known and associated with the unregistered horse. Stud Prefixes may be used in front of the horse's name, however, Stud Prefixes may only be used by the breeder of the horse and must not change with the change of ownership of the horse. Stud Book mares and Licensed stallions' names must begin with the same letter as the name of the sire. This is also usual practice for all other Hanoverian registered horses. Thoroughbred mares presented for classification must use the name which appears on the Australian Stud Book papers to avoid confusion with DNA typing. It may be possible for horses to have different registered names with other societies and organisations eg. the EFA and or AWHA etc.
