FOAL REGISTRATION

WHAT TO DO on the day

  1. Enter arena with broodmare and foal at foot (everyone plaited if possible and looking absolutely fabulous)
  2. Foal is checked for markings/whorls, etc and information recorded.
  3. Walk mare around a large triangle for judges to assess the foal at foot at the walk.
  4. Repeat above, but trot the mare to encourage the best trot from the foal (cantering will not help, as they do not score for canter).
  5. Stand mare in between two poles to encourage the foal to ‘stand up’ and be assessed for overall impression.
  6. Marks given for these three bolded areas – out of 10.
  7. Leave the arena once judging is complete.
