Stallions Accepted for Hanoverian Breeding:  A stallion is ONLY accepted for breeding with the Hanoverian Verband or the HHSA if he has successfully been Licensed AND Performance Tested with the appropriate scores, OR successfully Licensed and achieved the performance requirements through sport.

Licensed through Sport:  If a stallion has been Licensed with the Hanoverian Society and the Performance Test is not completed, he can instead, fulfill the performance requirements through sport.  A stallion can be accepted as a Breeding Stallion if he fulfils all of the requirements of a Licensed stallion, provides a full Veterinary Report including x-rays, and has successfully competed at the required standard of competition. The required standards are five placings 1st to 3rd in jumper classes 1.4m or higher, or FEI Dressage (Prix St Georges at 65% or above), or three placings 1st to 3rd in a Three Day Event at Medium or Advanced Level. (i.e. CCI** and CIC** upwards).

The inspection commission: consists of representatives of the Verband and other approved judges. To pass the inspection, a Hanoverian-registered stallion must receive an overall score of seven (7.0) with no subscore lower than five (5).

Maintaining Approved Status:
A stallion’s eligibility to produce HHSA-registrable foals is verified yearly based on an assessment of his foals and the annual payment of fees and dues. Stallion service certificate books can be purchased from the HHSA. The Registrar must receive correctly completed Stallion Certificates of Service and the annual Stallion Service Report by the end of the breeding season. Foals sired by stallions whose owners fail to comply with these requirements are ineligible for registration. It is the mare owners responsibility to verify a stallions status. Please contact the HHSA Registrar if there is any question regarding a stallion’s status.
